"Haunted Williamstown" Halloween Event

Friday, Oct. 30th, (7-9:30 pm) and Saturday, Oct. 31st (4-6 & 7-9)

Williamstown is celebrating New England history with their annual "Haunted Williamstown" Halloween event. A hugely popular spectacle with the Northern Berkshire communities, this year they are celebrating "the strange and amazing history at 1095 Main Street." A "haunted history tour" takes visitors through 3 centuries of unusual activities at the site. There are also free shows each day: Magician, Scott Jameson, and Edgar Allan Poe reading from his work "The Raven." Food, games, jugglers and a spooky tour of the history museum round out the festivities.

This annual event is a fundraiser for the Williamstown House of Local History, and attracts collaborators from all over Northern Berkshire County, including Main Street Stage Theatre Company and various local artists. Entrance fees cover all activities and are as follows: $10/person for the Friday Night Preview Party; $5/child (11 & under); $8/person (12 & under) for Saturday's activities.

Parking is available at the Milne Public Library, or try the new sidewalk across Field Park and leave your car at the Williams Inn. Overflow parking will also be available along South Street.

Milne Library Top Ten for Appalachian Trail Hikers

The David & Joyce Milne Library in Williamstown was recently included on a short list of “hiker –friendly” libraries along the Appalachian Trail in the A.T. Journeys bimonthly magazine. The magazine features articles of interest not only to hikers but those that have an appreciation for the nation’s most legendary trail. The only library in the top ten from Massachusetts, shares its “hiker friendly” status with large county libraries in Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia and a few of similar size libraries in Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine.

“This was a great acknowledgement; our through hikers have left me notes saying what a great library and friendly staff we have. We always know when the hikers begin coming through – there is definitely something in the air!” states Pat McLeod the Library Director.
